Thanks for stopping by. This is the first post on this blog, and a good place to explain what you can expect to find here.
What This Is
This blog is a place to share thoughts, ideas, and occasional deep-dives on topics that come up in the course of building things. That might mean:
- Elixir and Phoenix patterns that have proven useful in practice
- Lessons learned from shipping software
- Occasional opinions on tools, process, and craft
How It's Built
The blog itself is a straightforward file-based setup built into a Phoenix application. Posts are written in Markdown with YAML frontmatter for metadata, parsed at compile time, and served as plain HTML — no database, no CMS, no runtime overhead.
defmodule DemarestMays.Blog do
@posts_dir Path.join(:code.priv_dir(:demarest_mays), "posts")
def list_posts do
# Posts are compiled into the module at build time
@posts
end
end
Simple, fast, and easy to reason about.
